After the incredible Camp’s triumph at MET Gala, the extravaganza is – at least for now – not so as underground than before.
Since forever fashion has been a crazy world where also the unthinkable is admitted. But at the end of the day, it has to deal with real life and real way of dressing. That’s why very few of the incredible, wonderful, and not so comfortable as well, garments that we see season after season on the runaway are able to find a place in our daily routine.
The curious fashion world’s fauna, however, is always less worried about being under the spotlight and maybe being negatively judge for its freak and oddity. Actually that’s nothing much satisfying than be unique and memorable.
But what we have always to keep in mind is that the borderline between the creativity and the bad taste is even increasingly thinner. Wearing an extra outfit requires a certain attitude and a particular state of mind: if we are not completely sure about how to show ourselves off, it’s not the case to do so. Trying to be weird and excessive at any cost seems to be a new plague that does nothing than make people rude.
Prada semper fidelis to that absolute truth of the “Less is more” has proved once again that elegance means simplicity.
Following her rebel soul, Miuccia fierily chose not to ride the easy wave of the shining opulence, rediscovering instead, throughout her Resort 2020 collection, the pure and the authentic as unexpected means of subversion. The worst mistake we could do is thinking about a boring fashion show without any accents of creativity. That of Mrs. Prada, in fact, is a bold and even provocative simplicity that picks up great classics giving them a modern twist, getting away from that crazy ever-ending excessive details obsession.
Beauty and savoire faire went on stage at the seventh floor of the Piano Factory, the NY Prada’s headquarter redesigned for the event by OMA/AMO. Inside a very girly and delicate atmosphere, where shades of camel and pink act as lord, well finished and handmade features adorn the outfits characterized by pure lines: flowers’ embroideries embellish cotton shirts and blouses, paillettes scarfs take over for marabou feathers boas, stripes are harmoniously matched with check motifs, while jewellery sees common drop earring and sautoirs of ultra chic baroque pearls. Prada purity also shows off a great and precious attention to the materials chosen and used, all of them natural like cotton poplin, drill, leather, suede and gabardine.
The great returns of the Bowling Bag – launched for the very first time for the Spring Summer 2000 collection – is the umpteenth example of how charm could come from a surprising item normally linked with a rough field like that of the namesake sport.
To end Prada Resort 2020 collection is, as Miuccia said, a “simplicity as a protest against too much”, a truly react against the current fashion world’s situation as well as the political ones that see an enormous chaos taking over. Coming back to rationality for a while and following few but helpful rules are the best thing we could do to try to take again the right path, in fashion and in life!
