We suggested you can’t-miss Fuorisalone’s events that will take place in West Milan during the Milano Design Week 2019.

Now it’s the turn about what will happen in East Milan. So take note and be ready to immerse yourself into the art of design!

Aqua

Conca dell’Incoronata, Via San Marco

Great installation on the water by Marco Balich that pays tribute to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci. Covering the Conca dell’Incoronata, the structure, developed by Balich Worldwide Shows, will provide a large body of water that shows at its edge a changing skyline depending on the time of day. The skyline, between reason and enchantment, tells both a small fragment of the Renaissance and the future of Milan. Underneath this structure, within the canal, a Wunderkammer will let visitors experience the beauty, energy and shape of water in a full environment that, thanks to the use of advanced technologies, will engage them in the whole image and sound. An informative foyer, located before the Ponte delle Gabelle, illustrates the link between this historical place and Leonardo’s timeless and multifaceted genius.

Milan Design Market

Via Pastrengo 14

Market exhibition curated by Elif Resitoglu which, for its fourth edition, presents the theme Find the lost City: a selection of projects made with unconventional materials such as pineapple, scrap metal or cannabis. Among the objects – all on sale as usual – a special corner will be dedicated to Neubau, a Viennese eyewear brand that this year presents the special Walter & Wassily model created for the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus.

Design Collisions

Cascina Cuccagna, Via Cuccagna, corner Via Muratori

Within the event “De rerum natura” by the designer Matteo Ragni, the exhibition curated by journalist Laura Traldi emphasizes on collective intelligence and on its powerful ability to face the problems that afflict us. Fifteen of international projects will bring people together and teach them how to cooperate for the common good. Virtuous examples to be accounted as possible “best practices” to emulate, giving a positive and proactive view of the possibilities for change. The project is based on the idea that design, by activating collective intelligences, can offer sustainable strategies to deal with great contemporary issues, which are global and interconnected, and cannot be solved isolated.

Human Spaces

At the University of Milan, Via Festa del Perdono 7, Orto Botanico di Brera and the Audi City Lab

Promoted by Interni magazine, the exhibition makes human beings and their vital, concrete and profound needs, central in design: well-being and balance, memory and history, imagination and relationships, knowledge and discussion, desire for beauty and environmental protection.

Human Spaces will propose projects of places, environments, territories and contexts, and of services as well, focusing on a vision of personal well-being through the installations of architects and designers such as Hani Rashid, Carlo Ratti, Ingo Maurer, Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto, Humbero Campana, Piero Lissoni, Fabio Novembre, Mac Stopa, Dorota Koziara, Marco Merendi, Claudio Larcher, Marco Acerbis etc.

Among the installations, Piuarch’s “Forest of violins” emerges for its visual impact and the symbolic value, being an evocative tribute to the centuries-old Forest of Paneveggio, destroyed last November by a wave of bad weather that hit north-east Italy. Also “The circular garden”, by Studio Carlo Ratti Associati in the natural setting of the Botanical Garden of Brera, catches our attention by developing the theme of circular economy through the recycling and reuse of raw materials.

Conifera

Palazzo Isimbardi, Corso Monforte

Created by the fashion brand COS, Conifera is the name of a large-scale 3D, site-specific, architectural installation, designed with renewable resources by the Londoner architect Arthur Mamou-Mani. Designed and built digitally, it is the result of the interlocking of seven hundred bio-modular bricks, generated by a 3D printer mixing wood and bio-plastic. The structure goes from the courtyard to the adjacent garden of Palazzo Isimbardi. It starts with wood and bio-plastic modules, the moves till pure and translucent bio-plastic prints in the garden. Each bio-brick was printed by using compostable materials, so as to create a sort of reticle, optimizing the use of materials and allowing light to spread throughout the structure, which will be traversed by visitors. The result is a journey from the artificial dimension to the natural world, from the past to the future.

Words

Via Francesco Hayez 8

With the aim of creating a sort of silent Renaissance, opposed to the contemporary frenetic pace, the designers Luciana Di Virgilio and Gianni Veneziano transform their private space into Words, a temporary gallery where the private settles on the surface of the objects through colors and words. Few objects on display, but with the experience of entering the everyday world of colors and emotions of the authors, partners in life and business.

Ventura Centrale 2019

Central Station

In the abandoned warehouses along the Central Station, seventeen interactive and multi-sensory installations by companies and designers where sounds and lights will be the protagonists. “Come to light” by Aria will show all the light’s potentials thanks to the dynamic use of chromatic effects in an immersive atmosphere.

Lambrate design district and the ethical and sustainable production

The Be Swisstainable project is entrusted to Pinocchio, with the aim of raising public awareness on the issue of ethical and eco-sustainable production. The project, which received the patronage of the Municipality of Milan and of Carlo Collodi National Foundation, is proposed as a widespread exhibition, a reflection on new domestic lifestyles with works carried out in the last three years in the Smart Design laboratory of Politecnico di Milano, School of Design. Among the topics addressed, Zero Waste stands out, which is the area dedicated to the reduction of food waste and will show how to reuse food leftovers, guaranteeing a result that doesn’t undermine the quality.

Insecure

Park Associati, Via Garofalo 31

Curated by Virginio Braitore, it explores an increasingly concrete dystopia. Can design investigate the controversial concept of safety and of technologies thought to protect us but now become the main ingredient of a forthcoming dystopian / despotic civilization? The Mostra Insecure will be staged at the Park Associati studio in the Porta Venezia district. It is created by Zan Kobal, a 26-year-old Slovenian designer, and Weixiao Shen, a Chinese 23-year-old colleague, who met during the first year of the Master in Contextual Design at the Design Academy of Eindhoven.
